Udako Musika Printzak

We must trace the origins of what we now know as the Udako Musika Printzak cycle—a series of concerts that brings together music and heritage—to the spring of 2021. Although Azpeitia (Gipuzkoa) has a rich and diverse cultural life, I sensed a certain difficulty or lack of opportunities to present some artistic proposals. This festival, which we hold in July, was born with the aim of providing space for classical music, jazz, and other projects that tend to have less presence in the regular annual programming.

In that first edition in 2021, we took advantage of the magnificent portico of the Basazabal Palace as the stage for a concert that brought together txistu player Peio Irigoien, singer María Martín, accordionist Garazi Navas, and pianist Ignacio Arakistain. That very rewarding experience allowed us to continue developing this initiative, which has been gaining momentum in recent years, and to allocate the necessary resources for its growth.
With the intention of seeing local heritage through new eyes, we have used unique settings such as historic buildings, façades, and aesthetically appealing but lesser-known or more unfamiliar corners of the town as distinctive stages. That has been the main focus of this initiative: using the power of heritage as a draw and key to bringing different types of music closer to the community.
