IGNACIO ARAKISTAIN AGIRRE

(Azpeitia, 1998)

Ignacio Arakistain Agirre was born in Azpeitia in 1998. It was there that he took his first steps in the world of music, beginning to play the piano at the age of 7. He continued his piano studies at the Francisco Escudero Conservatory in San Sebastián, under the guidance of professor Junkal Guerrero. At the same time, he began studying the organ under the direction of professor Jose Luis Frantzesena. He has been awarded prizes in the Young Musicians of Euskadi competition in the keyboard category and in the San Sebastián City Piano Competition organized by the Enrique Lartundo Foundation. He also won third prize in the third Francisco de Salinas competition held in the city of Burgos. He has participated in various music cycles such as the San Sebastián Musical Fortnight, the Romantic Organ Cycle of Guipúzcoa, the Bizkaiko Hotsak cycle, and the Organ Music Cycle in Andorra, among others, in addition to giving recitals in other countries such as Austria, France, and Italy. He completed his organ studies at the Higher Music Center of the Basque Country, Musikene, with the highest grades, studying with professors Esteban Landart, Monica Melcova, and Karol Mossakowski, among others.

His involvement in cultural projects has been continuous, highlighting the album Galerak, released in 2019, featuring his own compositions. In the field of chamber music, his work with txistulari Peio Irigoyen and accordionist Garazi Navas stands out. Together with the former, he created the musical duo Bihodi Proiektua, with which he has already offered more than fifty concerts, showcasing the original concept that arises from blending the txistu and the organ.

Furthermore, in January 2022, he was awarded the 6th Orfeón Donostiarra-Musikene Prize for his work on the figure of composer Valentín Larrea (1876-1970). His commitment to the dissemination of art and music is evident in various articles, radio collaborations, and diverse media appearances in outlets such as Naiz Irratia, Irutxuloko Hitza, and Azpeitia Guka. In 2021, he created the Udako Musika Printzak cycle, aiming to unite classical music and the historical heritage of his hometown, Azpeitia.

He completed his master’s studies at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna (MDW) under the tutelage of professors Pier Damiano Peretti, Anna Scholl, and Johannes Zeinler. Currently, in addition to continuing his studies at the Conservatoire à Rayonnement Régional Xavier Darasse in Toulouse with musician Yoann Tardivel, he works as an organ teacher at the Juan Crisóstomo de Arriaga Conservatory of Music in the city of Bilbao.
